The Graduate Program in Literary Studies of the Federal University of Uberlândia (PPLET/UFU) is guided by two general objectives:

I. The need to train scientifically qualified professionals for teaching and research practices in Literary Studies and related areas, thanks to a higher education demand in the region, as well as to enable the improvement of the practice of primary and secondary school teachers;

II. The need to contribute to the advancement and consolidation of existing research groups that focus on Literary Studies within the institution, linked to projects of Scientific Initiation and Lato Sensu graduate programs.

Area of concentration: Literary Studies

The area of concentration in Literary Studies prioritizes critical, theoretical, and historiographical studies on literary phenomena, as well as the relation between literature and other discursive forms and semiotic systems. It understands literature as a cultural, social, historical, and aesthetical environment. Based on this plural perspective, these studies are organized in the research lines that follow: 1) Literature, Memory, and Identities; 2) Literature, Representation, and Culture; 3) Literature, Other Arts, and Media.

Specific Objectives

Specific objectives of the program:

I. To promote research aiming at the development of advanced literary studies, based on contemporary theoretical perspectives, articulating an interdisciplinary dialogue with other areas within the language field;

II. To qualify academic professionals with the capacity to carry out research, contributing to the scientific development of the area, as well as promoting knowledge diffusion by integrating teaching, research, and extension;

III. To contribute to the institutional policy of continued investment in graduate stricto sensu programs;

IV. To articulate teaching and research activities in both undergraduate and graduate levels, enabling thematic nuclei and the organization of research projects around issues related to literary studies;

V. To offer possibilities for the students to expand their academic knowledge and capacity to carry out literary studies research.

Graduate student profile

The program trains scientifically qualified professionals for the teaching and research practices in Literary Studies and related areas. It responds to a higher education demand in the region, as well as the need of qualified teachers improving their performance in primary and secondary school levels. It is expected from graduates to be subjects of their own learning and, based on the discussions and the production of theses and dissertations, to follow their future careers as researchers, teachers or professors, capable of using their research as a resource for their teaching and of exchanging experiences within their communities. Their knowledge will enable research practices in future projects with autonomy, self-criticism, and a broad view of literature and literary theory as a cultural practice. They will be critical individuals conscious of their discourse, as well as of their own practices within the global society.
