The Doctorate Course at PPLET is accessible to the whole Brazilian community as well as foreign students. Admission occurs yearly, and the Program accepts candidates with diplomas in Literatures/Languages and other similar areas. To be accepted in the Course, the candidate must go under the selection process with a Thesis Research proposal, show relevant academic production and take a written test about a theme from Literary Studies.In order to receive a Doctorate Diploma, the candidate must write a Thesis in the field, advised by a member of the Faculty.
The curricular structure of the Doctoral Course in Literary Studies comprises mandatory and elective courses, and the elective courses can have previously defined or open syllabuses, the latter being defined later. The only mandatory course (four credits), which every new student must take, is Literary Studies: critical trends.
Besides, the Program/Course offers a list of elective courses for the doctoral student: Option of defined syllabus: Literature, Memory and Identities, Literary Representation: text and culture, Literature, Inter-arts and Inter-media: dialogues, Comparative Literary Studies, Literature and History, Theories of Poetic Text, Narrative Text and its Forms: fiction, history and memory, Text and Culture. Literature and Arts/Media: languages and supports. Syllabus options with no prior definition: Seminars in Literary Theory and Historiography, Seminars in Comparative Literature, Seminar in Contemporary Literature, Seminars in Brazilian Literature, Seminars in Cultural Theories, Seminars in Text Theories, Seminar in Literature and Other Arts, Seminar in Literary Studies.
The doctoral student will therefore fulfill 20 (twenty) credits in curricular components, 4 (four) credits in mandatory courses and 16 (eight) credits in elective courses. Also, one must fulfill another 32 (thirty-two) credits in credit complementation activities, such as qualification exam and thesis defense, making 52 (fifty-two) credits.
The payment of the doctoral student's credits must occur in 18 (eighteen) months and the defense within 48 (forty-eight) months, as established by the program/course rules and regulations.
Selection Periodicity
According to the Regulation of the Graduate Program in Literary Studies – Doctoral Courses, the selection process will be conducted by a specific Public Notice and should normally take place once a year; and, extraordinarily, when applicable, always defined by the collegiate body.
Total Credits for Degree - Doctorate:
The DOCTORATE student must take 52 credits, divided as follows
01 Mandatory General + 4 electives (open or closed syllabus) + Doctoral Dissertation + Teaching Internship I and II (if Capes).
Credits = 4 + 16 + 32 = 52
Payment of disciplinary credits should take place in 18 months.
